Ellen DeGeneres Sells Santa Barbara Estate for $6.98 Million

DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, have already sold two other major properties this year

Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi are on a real-estate roll. The couple, known for their property prowess and efficient house renovations, recently sold a Santa Barbara equestrian home that they owned for just over a year, and at a respectable profit. According to Variety, the pair sold their 10.5-acre estate for $6.98 million, a bit more than the $6.7 million they paid for it last year. (It originally hit the market for $8.95 million in May, and was quietly discounted in subsequent months.)

The semi-remote property is located on the outskirts of Santa Barbara County and consists of a three-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bathroom farmhouse-style main house, a century-old barn, a pool, a spa, wide open pastures, and lots of terraces for maximal outdoor entertaining. The aesthetic is “hip Santa Barbara hideaway,” according to the listing, with a front door that opens onto a lounge-like combination living and dining space made modern with white walls and a large stone fireplace. The kitchen is stylish and all black, with top-of-the-line stainless-steel designer appliances, granite countertops, and custom cabinetry. DeGeneres and De Rossi even added a solarium to the home for extra natural light and a fun indoor-outdoor space. Much of the home is decked out with wide-plank oak floors and white beamed ceilings to add to the farmhouse-chic style.

Elsewhere in the home, the master suite features vaulted ceilings and custom lighting, with its own fireplace and sitting area. French doors open out onto a private outdoor area, and the master bathroom is luxuriously outfitted with a deep-soaking tub and separate glass-enclosed shower. The barn, which has since been converted into a versatile space, is currently used as a creative work studio (it has its own full bathroom, so could also easily be made into a home office or guesthouse). The lagoon-style swimming pool and spa are tucked into a small grassy knoll nearby, and much of the property is shaded by ancient oaks—ideal for keeping prying eyes away. The buyer of the property, according to records, is Nickelodeon president Brian Robbins.

Earlier this year, DeGeneres and De Rossi sold two other major properties: a home in Beverly Hills for $15.5 million in August, and a Carpinteria, California, mansion that they sold for $23 million literally days after listing it. The couple currently resides in a $45 million Beverly Hills mansion that they bought from Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo earlier this year, and they maintain an extravagant Balinese-style retreat in Montecito that they bought earlier this year for $27 million.
