From the Ground Up was founded in 2005 by owners Dan Houchard and Ryan Burkhart. The full-service landscape design firm offers landscape design, installation, and garden maintenance. Houchard and Burkhart are committed to providing their valued clients with an artful design and excellent customer experience from the first consultation through ongoing maintenance.

They are both passionate about the importance of landscape design and how it brings life to their clients’ exteriors. Enjoying one’s outdoor spaces is therapeutic, especially in today’s world, and professional landscaping brings residential properties to life and offers a blissful experience for homeowners to enjoy year-round.

Houchard majored in Horticulture and Landscape Design at Texas A&M University; after college, he worked for talented firms in Texas and Washington DC, before landing in his hometown of Dallas, Texas. Burkhart grew up in San Antonio, Texas, and went on to major in Landscape Architecture at Texas Tech University. He met Houchard during their time at a design firm in Dallas. Their skills complemented each other, which began their vision for their partnership. Houchard works with clients and designers throughout the design and installation process, and Burkhart oversees operations and the maintenance division for From the Ground Up.

From the Ground Up offers complete landscape design and installation services, including designing and installing terraces, walls, walks, drives; fountains and water features; swimming pools and spas; gates, fences, pergolas and arbors; large tree installations; drainage; irrigation design and installation; and outdoor landscape lighting.

In addition, the firm continues its services with residential garden maintenance, including weekly maintenance services, hand pruning, fertilization, disease control, mulching, seasonal color installation, and special event detailing.
